Detail: The JLPT is divided into specific sections depending on the level: Language Knowledge (Vocabulary/Grammar) and Reading, followed by Listening. Each section has a strict time limit, and you are not allowed to work on a different section once that section's time is called. Total test times range from around 105 minutes for N5 up to 170 minutes for N1.
